Automobiles in Germany's City Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.

City officials announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.

A senior representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
