The speculation around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
